Students of CFAL selected for KVPY 2015-16

MANGALURU: Ten students undergoing Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) advanced/JEE-main/AIPMT training at Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL), Mangaluru have been selected for fellowships in the prestigious Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) 2015-16. With these results, CFAL students have reasserted they are among the best in science and math subjects in India. Kenrick Pinto of Lourdes Central School, has secured all India rank of 16.

Since 2010, 35 CFAL students have been selected as Kishore Vaigyanis. Selected students are: Akshara Sharma, Shisheerdeep, Shashank Katta, all from National Institute of Open Schooling; Vivin Peris and Shashank P, Lourdes Central School; Chinmaya HN, Mount Carmel Central School; V Anargya, Canara PU College; and Ranjana Kasangeri, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Panambur. Barring Chinmaya and Anargya, who are I PU Students, rest are in II PUC.

The KVPY is one of the most prestigious examinations conducted in India. It is initiated and funded by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The objective of this exam is to identify students with talent and aptitude for research; help them realize their academic potential; encourage them to take up research careers in basic science, and ensure growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country.

These examinations require analytical skills and logical thinking – rote learning or memorization will not yield results. Severine Rosario, programme coordinator, CFAL said students from coast are intelligent and hardworking – right guidance at the right time, strong conceptual foundation and proactive teachers, peer group can help children reach amazing heights. Selected students have the opportunity to get direct admission into prestigious institutions in India such as IISc.
